Make Haste, My Beloved is a tender but insistent call from the heart of God to the heart of His people. It is a call to purity: a light from heaven illuminating our path.
It is the call of the Bride to the Bridegroom as she cries, "Make haste, my Beloved." (Song of Solomon 8:14) It is indeed heartening to know that it is HE who makes haste! We are forever aware of how painfully slow we travel on our journey toward sainthood. The desire is in our hearts to know and walk with God; but the detaining influences within our own hearts and in the world about us contrive to hold us back. And so we cry to Him, our heavenly bridegroom, "Make haste, and come to me!"
Let us be encouraged when we realize how slowly we move toward Him, for in response to our desire He is able to move swiftly toward us! There is nothing to prevent Him from coming to us in the place of devotion except our failure to seek His companionship. We may experience the sweetness of communion with Him to the degree that we wait upon Him in prayer and adoration.
